HOW SPIN CAME TO BE

HOW SPIN CAME TO BE

In May 2009, playwright, Nancy Ann Healy's life was forever changed. Two days after receiving the news that her mother had terminal cancer and would be best served in hospice care, a fatal shooting occurred in the cafe of the college bookstore Nancy managed. One week later, Nancy's mother passed away.

The experience left her pondering ripple effect of violence as it reaches out far beyond those immediately impacted to touch and alter countless lives. Exploring the many questions about life and death, empathy and the power of forgiveness led Nancy to write SPIN.

SPIN is the story of two families touched by violence and loss. It's a journey through grief, anger, love, forgiveness, and acceptance. In our short time together on this earth, we often forget that we are connected in amazing and unexpected ways. We are all spinning together through this life, creating our world as we go. SPIN explores that journey through two families' experience.

IT'S ALL FOR CHARITY

SPIN will be performed to benefit charities that seek to lift positive models, break stereotypes, and engage people in thoughtful discussion. The hope and purpose of SPIN is to utilize art not only as a means of entertainment, but also to create conversation and to contribute to building a more empathetic society that lifts diversity, encourages dialogue, and seeks compassion.

The first stage performance of SPIN will take place in October 2018 in Los Angeles. All proceeds will benefit WORLD WITHOUT HATE and THE NEW HOLLYWOOD's Micro-grant program which assists creators in bringing socially conscientious projects to life.
